Who is Jesus?

In a world in which information is readily available and opinions abound, this fundamental question stands above all other inquiries and considerations.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod believes Jesus is exactly who He said He is.  Along with the ancient Church, we confess that Jesus is true God and true man in one person.  He is the Son of God who was crucified and raised from the dead for the salvation of all who trust in Him.

Christ is not Jesus’s last name, but identifies Him as the Messiah (Christ is the Greek translation of Messiah), the fulfillment of the Old Testament promises that God saves His people.

Pastor Fred: “The Bible teaches that humans beings were created to worship God through a loving relationship with Him for all eternity.  The Bible explains in Genesis that Adam and Eve rebelled against God by disobeying his instructions not to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.  This disobedience is called “original sin” and has damaged our ability to love and trust God.  This sin not only impacted all human beings but the whole creation which is now in conflict with God’s Will, allowing death to come into God’s perfect creation.  We cannot fix this situation by our own strength or ability.  Therefore, God sent His only Son, Jesus, to restore the relationship God intended for us by suffering the punishment for our disobedience.  Salvation means our relationship with God has been restored because of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus for all those who believe in Him.”

This fulfillment and salvation happened in history in real time and in a real place (first century AD in Israel) through a flesh-and-blood person named Jesus.
